Today ESA's first Automated Transfer Vehicle "Jules Verne" will be practicing machine-sex ("docking") with the International Space Station orbiting our lovely planet.
The Vehicle is a step forward in Europe's aspirations in outer space autonomy. It will help supply the ISS with needed goods - and will probably take back part of them as trash when it leaves the station again.
This time the ATV will stay docked for 6 months before it is going to be launched, packed with the space station's wastes, to eventually burn and die down.
